Linen Restaurant Manchester 235 Casino - reader comments

"We took advantage of the restaurant's Early Bird Special. The food was incredibly slow, we sat down at 7.15pm and received our main course at 8.25pm - we had not ordered starters! The waiting staff were not interested, although we did get a discount after we complained. No atmosphere, I wouldn't bother with it again." - Kate Murphy, Manchester 3/11/08 (visited on a fri evening)

Trusted Reviewer "Linen is a superb restaurant that ticks all the boxes and leaves you impressed enough to return as soon as you can, introducing different friends to its elegant dining arena each time. Set inside the plush Manchester 235 casino, the restaurant is set both above and away from from the gambling area by a wide sweeping staircase, either side of the impressive cocktail bar. The decor is breathtaking - large expensive furniture is complemented by the brick walls of the Great Northern Warehouse, classy lighting and French style sideboards. The tables are that large they offer a feeling of self-importance, although you may have to shuffle closer to your partner if you're on a romantic night out. The service is amongst the best we have experienced in Manchester, and whilst our waitress for the night, Miriam, may have forgotten to bring out one of our side orders, she would still be top of our list of 'waitresses to employ' if we were to ever open our own restaurant.

Prices, it has to be said, aren't cheap (unless you take advantage of one of their many offers or use your Hi-Life card), however for the quality of the food you can't argue. The Venison was pefectly cooked and equally tender on taste, whilst the Lamb Shank was just as good, if not as meaty as the cuts I'm used to eating in Germany and Switzerland. The presentation of the dishes was as impressive as the decor and the wine selection would certainly keep a real wine buff happy.

Linen is without doubt one of the best restaurants in Manchester and one we'd recommend wholeheartedly, although if you're looking for an intimate meal, ask to be sat in the smaller tables nearer the kitchens (the larger covers on the right can get quite rowdy with diners having to speak louder to be heard across the huge tables). All in all, this is an excellent restaurant that is certainly worth visiting!" - restaurants of manchester - 9/10/08 (visited on a friday lunch)

"It's a high quality restaurant within a casino. On the particular evening we went there, there was a promotion on the amount of the bill. Whatever the cost of the bill was they gave you that amount of money back in casino chips. It adds an extra dimension to the evening and they regularly give different promotions as an incentive to dine there." - Simon Naz, Denton 9/10/08 (visited on a Thurs evening)

"We had a great family meal and will be going again very soon. I would highly recommend it." - Marjory Jacobson, Wychwood Park, Crewe 1/10/08 (visited on a Tues evening)

"Located within a casino. We found the whole dining experience excellent. I am now looking forward to returning. The staff/food/wine selection was just first class. After around 9.30pm live music filtered through from a talented duo below the restauarant. A bonus is the vehicle parking service they offer" - David Muirhead, Cheshire 21/8/08
