"We have been twice recently to Potters at The Trafford Centre and was surprised that the service charge was automatically added on. We actually felt that this was awkward, and that we felt obliged to pay it, especially as you dont know about this until you get your bill. We paid the first time to avoid embarrassment, but on the second occassion it came to £19 or just over, and with the service charge it was just over £21. We handed the waitress a £20 note and she sort of hesitated a bit, then disappeared and brought our change minutes later. I think the idea of putting the service charge is not only wrong, but awkward and embarrassing if you dont want to pay it. Surely it should be up to the diners' discretion if they choose to tip?" - nicola power, manchester - NEW MEMBER (27/5/09 visited on a sunday afternoon) |
