"It was the first time we'd visited Red Cafe since it first opened in the days of Jaap Stam and Peter Schmeichel. Back then we were regulars, visiting at least once a week during lunch breaks at work. It's amazing how very little has changed - the decor is still the same, albeit the players' names on the back of each seat have changed from Van der Gouw to Van der Saar and Parker to Park, whilst the menu is relatively the same even if the famous Red Ketchup has been replaced with Heinz (thankfully not Heinze). If it's the full Manchester United experience you crave, then the Red Cafe is ideal - the many overhead TV screens broadcast classic United clips for the parents with the kids (and their are many here) somewhat content at sitting in a chair emblazoned with the name and number of their red shirted heroes.
The food offers many American dishes (as you'd expect for a club owned by the greedy Glazers) although the choice of burgers is complemented with a good choice of salads, sandwiches and pasta dishes together with Fish & Chips for those overseas tourists. Prices aren't as extortionate as they once were, with the Famous Red Cafe Burger with chips priced at £7.95. Even the Sirloin Steak is only £12.95 although you're not paying for quality - servings are similar to what you'd come to expect from a chain pub - my burger was chargrilled and cold but, to be honest, those who flock here don't really come to experience the food. It's more a day out. There are better restaurants around Old Trafford but none as close to the United experience as this." - Restaurants Of Manchester (20/5/08 ~ visited on a saturday lunch
