Olive Italian Restaurant Manchester - member's reviews
"We booked a table at Olive for 5.45pm before going to the Opera House. The staff were very friendly and we ordered a garlic pizza and a dish of olives, which were all very nice. I'm not sure if the kitchen then lost our order but at 6.50pm we had to ask how much longer our main dishes were going to be. When we finally received our food, the Home Smoked Duck in Tagliatelle had no duck in at all. When I complained, I then received some duck but, I have to say, the dish lacked flavour, a comment mirrored by all our party with their dishes." - Heather Thomlinson, Carlisle ~ TRUSTED REVIEWER ~ (16/5/11 visited on a saturday evening)

Trusted Reviewer "My husband and I visited Olive on a busy Friday evening. First impressions were good as we received a pleasant welcome. A little strange was the very large open storage cupboards to one end of the room, which was half empty with cardboard boxes and very unappealing to look at whilst eating! We started with the Antipasti (£7.25) which was very disappointing, especially the two slices of very dry and shrivelled Beef Carpaccio but thankfully we ordered the Selection of Italian Breads (£3.25), which were great! We both had pasta for mains and the two dishes were lacking in flavour and content. I think that the Olive is tailored towards people who prefer a more 'English Italian', as I didn't think the taste and food was quite up to the standard of a real authentic Italian restaurant! We probably won't go back as there are too many other Italians in Manchester offering better quality for a cheaper price." - Michelle Knowles, Rochdale ~ TRUSTED REVIEWER ~ (11/4/11 visited on a friday evening)

Trusted Reviewer "We turned up at Olive at 8pm, not expecting to get a table, but there was a small table for two free near the bar. The service was very good and quick. I enjoyed the 21 Day Matured Char Grilled Fillet Steak (£22), and my girlfriend had the Swordfish with pasta & vegetables, which was excellent. Overall, we both enjoyed the food at The Olive. I've been to the other branch in Preston, and the Manchester one is far better. It is a reliable restaurant which serves up the goods." - Bill McLocklan, Manchester - TRUSTED REVIEWER (14/7/09, visited on a friday evening)

Trusted Reviewer "Three of us visited Olive on a Friday night without booking and got straight in. We'd tried a few other places and were surprised that it was so busy the first weekend after Christmas. We ordered our drinks and sat down with the menu. There was no need for a starter, so we went straight to mains, ordering 2 pizzas and cannelloni, specifically requesting no chillis on one of the pizzas. When the food came, the cannelloni and one of the pizzas was ok but the other pizza had to be returned because they'd included chillis on it. Unfortunately the waitress insisted that there had been no request for the absence of chillis. Never a good sign. Another pizza arrived pretty sharpish and we enjoyed our food. At this point, we had to ask for a second time for some water whilst we looked at the dessert menu. We ordered a chocolate cheesecake and a panacote. The cheese cake was good but the panacote was excellent and the highlight of the meal.

"On the whole Olive is ok but I was surprised the service wasn't a bit better bearing in mind it wasn't that busy. I would, however, question going back given the price of the meal. Just up the road you have Croma and Piccolinos doing similar food, cheaper and arguably better. We decided upon Olive because we didn't want to stray far given it was -3°C outside, which leads me on to my final point. When it's so cold outside they should have put the heating on in the restaurant." - stephen lake, manchester ~ TRUSTED REVIEWER ~ (12/1/09 visited on a friday evening)

Trusted Reviewer "I've been to Olive several times, and I'm usually not disappointed. The food is always very tasty and reliable and the staff are absolutely first class. This is one of those versatile restaurants that has something for everybody, a casual drop-in for a quick meal anytime of day or a more leisurely evening meal with a good bottle of wine." - ian, stockton heath ~ TRUSTED REVIEWER ~ (16/5/08 visited on a thursday lunchtime)
