Top Wok Central Chinese Restaurant Manchester - reader comments

"I have been to Top Wok Central about half a dozen times, my 21 year old son will not try anywhere else as he says 'what is the point when you can get a fantastic 4 course meal for under a tenner'? I did chuckle the other Saturday after we had watched Man Utd v Spurs game. We walked it back to Chinatown, arriving about 8.15 pm, everywhere was packed, a typical Saturday night. The special offer was advertised outside Top Wok, and we were perusing the menu along with another few potential diners, when a waitress came running out, quickly removing the offers board and running back inside! The place was moreorless full so I gather they must have seen the opportunity to earn more cash from those who were going to venture inside! But the food is great for the price, as long as you stick to the offer menu, free prawn crackers, great soups, dim sums, crispy duck are all first class, and a fair selection of main courses, with a choice of noodles, or boiled/fried rice. You will not leave hungry, and under a tenner." - steve taylor, chorley 27/2/09 (visited on a weds evening)

"I visited Top Wok on the 27th of December on my own for a meal before taking my taxi home. The staff were very unimpressive. I can appreciate and understand the fact they must have worked hard. What I don't appreciate is I was debited £16.50 for my food and drink, which I was happy to pay, however was debited for a further £18.00 on my credit card statement. It is ridiculous to pay £34.50 for one dish of prawns and rice." - sari sheeran, stockport 30/12/08 (visited on a saturday, after 11pm)

Trusted Reviewer "I've been to Top Wok a few times after a night out - it's one of the only restaurants in the city centre open until 3am. The decor is bright and inviting, the menu extensive and the location (in China Town) superb. The food on the other hand is pretty average and the price quite high for such standard fayre. There's a window looking into the kitchen and the chef's don't look too happy to be working there. The waitresses also seem to suffer from work satisfaction - on my visit last night a huge arguement broke out between four of them - each shouting abuse in Chinese across the restaurant to each other much to the entertainment of the customers. There's so many better restaurants in China Town, including one or two that also open until 3am." - Matthew, Manchester 1/4/07 (visited on a Sat, after 11pm)
