Canteen and Bar offers a unique fusion of cocktail bar, relaxed
lounge and modern Asian eatery. The site opened in December 2007
and remains dedicated to bringing unrivalled quality and service
to Manchester’s discerning bar crowd. |
An
exciting addition to the bohemian Northern Quarter of Manchester,
the venue’s loud and proud interior design concept offers
a modern take on 60’s psychedellia, mixing patterns, prints
and colours and a totally random fashion. Walrus’ crazy coloured
walls juxtaposed with modern white oriental furnishings can induce
an almost dream-like state in its guests. |
Walrus
offers a ‘canteen lounge’ environment where people are
invited to try some of the most innovative and delicious oriental
food around. The menu, created by ex-Nobu chef Paul Day offers a
Japanese canteen style food concept that encourages flexible and
sociable dining. |
Food
is specifically Japanese with a hint of Thai and guests can choose
from small plates, larger Donburi rice bowls, and the bento box
– perfect for sampling a little bit of everything. |

dishes include; three times cooked Black Pepper Ribs, Oyakodon (chicken
and egg) Donburi, and a three day cooked beef Mussaman curry. |

primarily a bar, rather than a restaurant, the food being served at
Walrus is amongst the best Japanese cuisine Manchester has to offer.
The menu was created by ex-Nobu chef Paul Day and the quality of the
Bento Boxes, Donburi rice bowls and Oriental seafood dishes is as
good as any you'll find at Manchester's celebrated Japanese restaurants.
The prices are also inviting and the informal canteen style makes
it the ideal place to grab a bite to eat with friends, over fantastic
drinks. We love Walrus!"
