Dimitris Tapas Bar & Taverna Manchester - reader comments

"Overrated, very dear for what you got. Check your bill as we didn't until it was too late. We are sure we paid for items we did not get." - andy, manchester 3/11/08 (visited on a saturday evening)

"We didn't even stay to order food. First of all they were very unwelcoming and told us to go to the bar without even telling us where it was. Secondly, the barman seemed to make a point of serving everyone sitting at the bar before me, and I thought I heard him making a comment to them that they took priority over me. The waiter got impatient when he was leading us through to our table. Finally, he pointed out our table with the words "I'll need the table back at half nine" (about an hour and a half after we had sat down). I felt so unwelcome that we walked out without ordering. Their website had led us to believe that Mr Dimitri would extend the warmest of greetings whilst playing his guitar. Sadly the reality was very different." - ben, manchester 30/8/08 (visited on a saturday evening)

"Unusual venue in an old arcade which I guess could be cold in winter, but this sort of added to the ambience. The food was excellent - great choice and good value for money." - steph m, scarborough 7/8/08 (visited on a sunday evening)

"I visited with 2 friends from a nearby TV company who send a lot of business to Dimitris, we'd not met up for a while & were looking forward to an elegant dining experience, boy did we pick the wrong place. Mr Glum the waiter showed us to a table, we ordered & the starters came, part way through the starters the main course came too we asked why they had been brought it. We were told that we could only have the table for 2hours???? We told him that we had not booked for only 2 hrs, and would not have come if that was the case, he said we should have been told when booking. He took the mains away only to return the second we put the last starter in our mouth, when he repeated the process again with the desserts we asked to see the Manager, who apologised for the "oversight" but affirmed what the waiter had said. We dug in our heels & refused to vacate the table in 2 hours & ate & drank at our leasure. What kind of new practice is this? it is pure greed & professional suicide, how can guests choose to race against the clock with their dinner, which they are paying top whack for? if it were a takeaway or greasy spoon you could understand it, but a renowned restaurant no way! They will lose a lot of business especially as two friendly & welcoming Tapas restaurants El Rincon & El Hacienda, with no table restrictions better food & cheaper are only a stones throw away, Dimitris loss will be their gain." - enna, manchester 8/11/07 (visited on a fri evening)

"Unfriendly staff, good to average food. Surroundings were good, but these were spoiled when our waitress gave our table to another customer (for no good reason?) and plonked us next to the door with no apology or explanation. Nice. Felt very unwelcome. Won't bother visiting again." - emma stevens, bury 3/11/07 (visited on a sat evening)
